Initial Assessment Appointment

During your appointment,

  • you will receive a thorough oral examination including x-rays. If you have recent dental x-rays, bring them to your appointment. If you do not bring recent x-rays, expect new ones to be taken. An exam will not take place without x-rays.
  • the provider will explain the examination findings and provide a general review of treatment needs and options.
  • you will receive detailed information about our student clinic.
  • there will be a discussion to determine if your care can be managed by a student dentist.
  • an appropriate referral can be given if you prefer or require treatment by a resident or faculty dentist.

Appointment Details

Student providers examine and treat patients under the direct supervision of experienced faculty dentists.

Continuity of student providers is considered, but a number of students and faculty may be involved in your treatment. As a result of thorough and personal attention, the overall time to complete treatment is considerably longer than it would take seeing an experienced dentist.

The principles of good dentistry are used to develop treatment recommendations. Patients who are unable or unwilling to accept treatment recommendations will not be treated in the student clinic.

Cancellation Policy

We require a 24-hour notice to cancel an appointment. After two broken or cancelled (without the required notice) appointments, elective care will no longer be provided in the student clinic.
